The challenge

A high-profile business leader from West Africa hired KRL, along with a UK-based partner, to manage communications and stakeholder relationships for his holding company, private foundation, and personal brand as one of Africa's leading voices on homegrown economic development and entrepreneurship. KRL used the foundation's newly-launched flagship program to raise the profile of the business leader and philanthropist outside Africa.

The KRL approach

KRL helped craft a strategic communications plan which involved engagements with top-tier print and broadcast media, global forums and political, business and philanthropic leaders from around the world. Along with a UK-based partner and foundation leaders, KRL developed core messaging to convey the founder’s ideas in a unique way, tying together his views on foreign aid, economic growth, entrepreneurship, and social impact into a unifying philosophy.

KRL’s multi-pronged communications effort included engaging U.S. government officials and securing the foundation’s inclusion in a White House entrepreneurship initiative. Foundation executives spoke at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit and other White House events, which provided a prestigious international platform, unrivaled opportunities to connect with high-level stakeholders, and an opportunity to secure coverage by major U.S. print, television, and radio outlets.

KRL's communications strategy successfully raised the profile of both the foundation and its founder, establishing his position as a global thought leader and driving international attention and support to his flagship program.
