Larry Esin graduated with degree in civil engineering, with honors, from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1986. He began his professional career the same year as a project engineer at B&M Technological Services, an award-winning Defense Contractor in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
In 1992 Esin emerged as a finalist in a global contest to fill a Crane Rogers Institute of World Affairs Southern Africa Fellowship based on his Fellowship topic “The Competitive role of Private Business Enterprise in National Economic Development and Nation Building in Southern Africa”. That same year he received an appointment with Formosa Petroleum of Taiwan to head the company’s operation as Country Officer in Nigeria.
Between 1992 and 1996, Esin lived and worked in Nigeria as Formosa petroleum’s Country Officer. In 1997 Esin was accepted into a master’s program in International Business & Economic Law at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Massachusetts, administered by Harvard and Tufts University.
Upon graduating, Esin was appointed by the newly elected government of Cross River State, Nigeria as Head of the Cross River State Office of Economic Affairs in Washington DC in 1999. He was later appointed Managing Director of the Cross River State Tourism Bureau, where he returned to Nigeria to direct and supervise CRS’ tourism potential.
In January 2006, Esin was appointed Special Adviser on Infrastructure to the Cross River State Government. Esin held his post as Special Adviser for six months before he ran for the governorship of Cross Rivers State, although his bid was unsuccessful.
Esin focused turned talents and resources to technology. Since 2007 he has served as Adviser to the Nigeria Ministry of Transport on a proposed high-speed rail link to connect Lagos and Abuja and other major infrastructure projects including Nigeria’s first and West Africa’s only cable car project in Obudu, Nigeria.
Larry Esin is currently Chairman/CEO of Interactive Data Systems (IDS), a UK registered Technology Holding company focused on AI applications.
