WASHINGTON, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Trilogy International Partners, based in Bellevue, WA, last night was presented the Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE) by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Said Clinton of ComCEL, Trilogy’s subsidiary in Haiti, “For over 10 years, ComCEL has offered affordable, high quality wireless cellular service in Haiti. But ComCEL does more than provide access to communications. It helps provide access to opportunity.”
Upon receiving the award, Chairman of Trilogy John Stanton and President Brad Horwitz thanked the Secretary for the extraordinary honor and noted that, “our greatest contribution to the people of Haiti is that we have built a successful business that has proved sustainable over time.” Horwitz further noted that, “we see it as our mission to harness the industry and innovation of the Haitian people.”
Trilogy, which provides wireless services to the Haitian market under the Voila brand, was recognized for its positive impact on the Haitian economy and for its exemplary employment practices. Trilogy was also acknowledged for its diverse activities including youth rehabilitation programs, scholarships, internships, computer labs, sports programs, and the arts.
Education and youth programs are the major focus for Trilogy’s social investment through the Voila Foundation, and they are the primary funder of Yele Haiti, the foundation established by world-renowned hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean. Jean, who attended the ceremony, was recognized by Clinton and Trilogy President Horwitz, who said: “Wyclef’s gift for music, song, and transformative artistry is only rivaled by his love and generosity for his countrymen in Haiti.”
Trilogy was chosen from 42 nominees submitted by American ambassadors around the world. ACE finalists are international business leaders who recognize the vital role that U.S. businesses play abroad as good corporate citizens. The Secretary of State has awarded the ACE since 1999 to recognize U.S. businesses for advancing good corporate citizenship, innovation, and democratic principles.
During the awards presentation, Trilogy President Brad Horwitz recognized the Managing Director of KRL International LLC: “I would like to acknowledge Riva Levinson, Trilogy’s long-time DC consultant, who helped the company navigate some very challenging times and stands with us today to share a moment of success and joy.”
Responded Levinson, “We have been privileged to support Trilogy International Partners throughout the years, helping them to make their way in international markets where US investors often operate at a disadvantage. Today’s award recognizes not only Trilogy’s good work, but also the tireless efforts of hundreds of US government officials and public-private partners who have helped level the playing field for companies like Trilogy.”
Trilogy was formed in 2005 by an executive team that has led some of the largest wireless communications companies in the United States and is now focused on developing communications companies in international markets. Trilogy holds controlling interests in wireless networks serving over 3 million customers in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Bolivia, and New Zealand.
